6 Ways To Monetize Your Blog

Once you start compiling your content and adding it to your blog, it’s time to start thinking about how to monetize your blog with your new found information. Here are 6 ways to monetize your blog with your incredible content. So let’s get to it – I know that is what you were waiting on wasn’t it?

Promote Affiliate Programs

Finding products you can promote within your content is a great way to monetize your blog. One way to do this is to sign up for an affiliate program for the items you would like to promote. Once you have found them and signed up you will receive a link (your affiliate link) that you can use to send your blog readers to the product. When they make a purchase using your link, you will be rewarded with commissions.

When posting your content, think of items that will complement the content and search for affiliate programs for those types of products. For instance, if you are posting an article that discusses using video online, you could promote the software you use to create your own videos. Do you have a product or service you love and couldn’t live without? Put together a product review and use your affiliate link to send your reader to the company’s website. A word of caution with reviews – a reader can tell if you are just pushing a product to make a sale, so be honest. If there is something you don’t like about it, tell them. In other words, give a balanced review.

You can find affiliate programs in many places, but here are a few I recommend:

The company’s website – More and more business owners are realizing just how much creating an affiliate program for their products and services can increase business. Check right on the company’s website for information on how to sign up for their affiliate program.

Affiliate Networks – You can find tons of products in every market you could dream of here. Just sign up for a free publishers account, locate products you would like to promote. That’s all there is to it. www.ClickBank.com

Free affiliate articles – If you are looking for content that is ready for affiliate links visit www.FreeAffiliateArticles.com and you will find a bunch.

Mom Affiliate Network – if you cater to the mom market, I highly recommend checking this site out for family friendly products. You will also find programs to help Internet Marketers and those who want to work from home here. www.MomAffiliateNetwork.com

Search Engines – Many times you can put the type of product you are looking to promote plus the words “affiliate program” into your browser’s search feature and you will find lots of options.

This is the first set of 6 ways to monetize your blog.

Adsense

The second set of 6 ways to monetize your blog involves Google Adsense. What is this?
Do you see those blocks of ads on blogs (including this one) and websites throughout the web that has “Ads by Google” at the bottom? Those are ads published via Google’s Adsense program.

Google sends targeted ads based on the content that appears on your blog. You can sign up for an account with Google’s Adsense program for free. Once you sign up you will be able to set up the type of ads you would like fed to your blog (text ads, block ads, banner ads, and more). As the content on your blog changes, Google changes the ads and you are paid whenever someone clicks on the ads. Please do not click on the ads on your blog or website, this is not allowed.

When done correctly, you can make very good money with Adsense, but it does take a bit of testing and tweaking to find the combination of ads that will work best for your individual blog. People are used to seeing these ads and although many people do ignore them, there are many more who will click the links and you will be compensated when they do.

Resale Rights Content

Resale rights content is another way to monetize your blog. This is content you purchase similar to PLR but with one exception. You usually don’t have the right to alter the content in anyway. You purchase the content for your use and are given the rights to resell it, which allows you to then turn around and sell the product yourself.

Normally, you will receive not only the product, but also the sales page and other web copy to add to your own website. You simply change the payment link to have it paid to you and whenever someone buys the product you get all the profits.

Master Resale Rights Content

If resale rights content isn’t good enough, there is also content you can purchase that comes with what’s known as Master Resale Rights. The difference between master resale rights and regular resale rights is:

Resale Rights – you can sell the product but you cannot pass those same rights on to your customers.

Master Resale Rights – You can not only sell the product and keep the profits, but you also have the ability to pass resale rights onto your customers. They can in turn sell the product as their own.

Each product has specific rules on how you can and cannot use the content no matter which type you are given. Due to this make certain you take the time to read the rules before just throwing the product up for sale or offering rights to others.

Here are some examples of products that offer resale rights you might want to try for your blog:

Create and sell Your own Info Products

Another idea is to create your own Info Products. Ok, I know you are probably shaking your head after reading number 4. You are probably wondering how in the world you would have the time to write your own information products when you are trying to save time and energy by not writing all your own blog posts. Hear me out, I promise it will be worth it.

Just like your blog posts, you can create information products that you can sell to your readers without writing all the content yourself. The absolute best and easiest way to do this is by purchasing PLR content that centers around the topic of the info product you would like to create and rework it a bit and compile it to create an eBook or guide you can then put up for sale. Here’s an example of what I mean:

Let’s say you have a blog about Green Living. One thing your readers would love to know is how to live a greener life without paying tons of money on things like solar panels, costly home additions, etc. You have decided you would like to create an eBook to help them go green by making small changes to their everyday lifestyles without breaking the bank. You would also like to show them ways they can not only live a greener life but even save in the process. We’ll call the product “Go Green without Breaking the Bank: Small Changes you can make to Live an Echo-Friendly Life while Saving Money”.

The first thing you would do is start searching for private label rights content that fits your subject. Next, you will want to compile all the PLR you have purchased into a logical, valuable document. Now, it’s time to add your own advice, tips, knowledge, etc. on the subject and form your finished product.

You have now created an entire eBook without having to write the majority of it yourself. Save your brain power for marketing your newly created product. Just remember, make any PLR you purchase your own by reworking it to fit your need and add or take away information as necessary.

Bonus Tip: To add value to your information product, record an audio version of your eBook and package it with the written version. You can also interview others in your field and add that too.

eCourse and Newsletters

Another great way to monetize your blog content is by adding free courses to your arsenal. You can put together courses that will give your readers further information about the topic of your blog.

For instance, if you run a blog about Labrador Retrievers, why not create a short 5 day course that tells owners of Lab puppies the best tips and tricks for house training the newest members of their family, Or create a course that gives important information on raising Labs specifically.

You can use PLR content or take content you have previously posted on your blog to create your courses.

Grab pre-written PLR courses on Internet Marketing topics at MostlySanePLR.com

Simply load the course into your email management system (I use Getresponse)) and sprinkle promotions for affiliate products throughout the course. Once you have the course set up, copy and paste the HTML or JavaScript for the sign up box into your box. Then market the course via your blog posts, on Twitter, Facebook and other places.

This brings me to the next step in making money with your blog – bringing in visitors.

Ad networks

Ad networks are programs that serve ads onto your blog. Normally they pay per thousand impressions (usually described as CPM). So, an ad network that pays $3 CPM would pay $3 for every 1000 times the ad was viewed.

There are many sites like this online and you can find them by searching Google.

Bonus Tip

Donation / Becoming a Sponsor

Asking readers to donate to your site is another method of monetization. Be aware that it is not easy to make money with, unless you have a sponsor who donates a lot. Before making requests for donation, your readers need to know why you need it. Some possible reasons could be:
Hosting expenses
New product creation
Researching costs, etc.

There are tools available to collect your donations via credit card through your website. These include Click and Pledge, Network for Good and Gift Tool. Promotion of your site with donation as an option has to be done to encourage potential donors to go there. When promoting your blog for donation be sure to use big, bold and beautiful buttons to make it easy to find the ‘donate’ option on your blog.

  1. Hi Vinton,
Good list. I do a few of these. Recently added a traffic building site which also makes me money without recruiting… who wouldn’t like that! So there are many ways on the internet, just have to find the right programs that work best for you …

    • Hi Lesly,
Yes there are many ways to monetize one’s blog. I gave just a few but really one has to be imaginative and creative. The thing is to stand above the rest and do something different and as long is works, scale it.

Thanks very much for the comments and for visiting.
      Vinton

  2. Hi Vinton

Great article and thanks for providing lots of ways to monetize your list. I am going to have to get serious about monetization here soon for sure, so thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Hi Vinton, Great information. I’m glad you explained about Resale Rights and Master Resale Rights… at times that can get confusing. I’ve purchased PLR type things in the past, but have only used them for personal use. Adsense, I’ve not visited with in a long time because it was confusing to me. That other sites are a plus for looking into different types of affiliate products. Thanks for all of the info.

    • Hi BG,
Thanks for the comments. Hope that you are not still confused by some of the services. When you have started to use them it will all become clear with practice. I would like to suggest that you practice using them and have fun while doing so.
      Thanks
      Vinton

    • Hi Kathryn,
Thanks for the response to the blog post. Yes, PLR articles are great sources for content but one has to be cautioned against duplication.
Like you said you put them in your own words. This is good practice that I hope more persons would adopt. This has not always been the case.
      All the best
      Vinton

  4. What a wealth ways there is to monetise our blogs! have to say I am not keen on Google Adsense or external Ads for a personal blog… I find the ads rather intrusive and distracting, but I probably would just those blogs avoid them in future. I tried it, and could only bear to have one low in the sidebar…. not very noticable!! But that’s just me, and on some niche specific blogs I think they will do well
It is all about giving people something they want, so your ideas work well if they are in tune with your brand.
The donations section made me smile!
Some great ideas, thanks Vinton 🙂

    • Hi Jacs,
Thanks kindly for the feedback. Really appreciate your thoughts on the external ads. From what I know many persons love them and do not find the intrusive. It all depends on how much they fit in with your content so that they don’t stick out like sore thumb.
      Thanks
      Vinton

  5. Hey Vinton,

The one thing I like that you mentioned is the PLR for content. If not using our own, we can obtain a PLR and put it into our own words. It can become a good ebook, or even an online course if we take it step by step.

I like using PLRs whenever I do email content. When one has several different lists, it sure comes in handy. As long as we don’t copy and paste, we are OK

  6. Great job Vinton You have given great value here on how to monetize our blogs. Some very good examples and links too. Some I didn’t even know about. Will use as a resource. Thanks very much

  7. I think the key to monetizing your blog is to know your customer/audience and what they want. Then offer that, whether it’s through affiliate products or your own. Also, offering high quality products that you use yourself, or that you create is really important, in my opinion.

    • Hi Leanne,
Thanks for sharing. There is no one way of doing this and the fact that you mentioned others have added depth to the various methods.
      Vinton

  8. Hi Vinton,

I don’t know if my comment went through, so I’ll do it again lol.

You have done an amazing job on this post showing people how to monetize their blogs. Each point is spot on.

I love to do affiliate marketing as well as produce my own products/services. When doing both, product creators get together and affiliate each other. It kind of goes hand in hand.

This post is crafted so well, especially with links you have given. It is a wonderful share.

    • Hi Donna,
No it is the first time I am seeing your response. So that it did come through the first time.
I have seen where you have shared the post and I would like to thank you very much.
      Vinton

  9. Hi Vinton,

You sure have given so much value here to monetize our blogs. On each point you have also went the extra mile to give examples and links which is wonderful.

I have produced my own products and have done quite well. But when we do put them on the market, there is the reciprocity that goes with it. In turn, I have also done affiliate marketing. Combining the two is a win win.

The affiliates like me to sell their product and in turn they will sell mine. What a great way to do business!

    Thanks for an excellent post!

    -Donna
